Hello
The end of a long weekend here. A chance to catch up, finish a project or two and get them photographed.
Hello
Today I have another finished quilt to share.
This is a 9 block HST (Half Square Triangle) Quilt once again with white sashing, backing is cream with all over grey star pattern and finished with mint binding.
I completed this quilt pretty quickly from start to delivery. It took me less than a week and I worked 3 full days in my day job. The lack of after school/sport committments has made a difference in the volume of washing alone!
This quilt may look familar to some. My friend asked me to make the same as this one here
What a difference colour can make!
I played the equivalent of yarn chicken with the binding. I had 0.5cm left!
I hope you and yours continue to be safe and well.
Until next time
Cheers
Vicki
Hello
Popping in today to share the finished quilt.
Looks like a need to give this another press!
These are HST made using the Missouri Star Quilt method beginning with 2 x 5″ squares, sewn around the outer 4 edges and cut into triangles – like sandwiches! Opened, pressed and layout in desired patterns, re-sewn into blocks and then white cotton sashing. The back is the same yellow as the binding. I quilted in the ditch around the main blocks.
I have a goal to learn/be confident to do more than quilt in the ditch one day! I think I’ll save that for a quilt I’m making for me though. This quilt is going to a friend for her to gift. I have a few more quilts on the to do list – another for the same friend and 2 for Ms E’s friends. Ms A has also put in a request for a new quilt (cough cough some time ago!) and I can’t forget the shirts, denium jeans and off cuts from DFG I have been putting aside for more charity quilts.
On another note I hope you are well and continue to be. It seems over night some people have lost their sense! When you have a family of 6 plus the extra friends you do look like you are stock piling food just doing a regular shop! – we often have 2 trolleys, a farmer’s market run and a mid week top up as well. I know I’m not alone I overheard another mum justifying her trolley of food this morning.
Cheers

Hello
Popping in to share a new sewing addition to my craft space.
Hubby and my son made me a quilting design wall which also doubles as a white board!
Simple construction a left over piece of pin board fabric hubby came across permanently adhered to the back of a piece of whiteboard purchased for a few dollars at Bunnings. Pin board one side whiteboard the other! Finished size approximately 122 x 148 cm. Perfect for most projects.
It’s not fancy but it is saving me from getting on my knees as much and I can see my quilt blocks as I piece them together.
This is a HST (half square triangle) WIP baby quilt for a friend. My friend now lives the other side of the city to me so we don’t get the opportunity to catch up daily like we use to when we were waiting for our kiddos in the school yard (you know just a few years ago 😉 ) Anyway she did ask me to make her 2 quilts a little while ago. Yes I said no problem first one to be finished in March. Great I said heaps of time! When I recently caught up with her she let me know the bub this quilt is for has arrived! Oh no! You said March. Yes was her response it is March next week! So guess what I am doing for as much of this weekend as I can!
I’ll come back soon (fingers crossed) with a finished quilt to share. Only sashing, maybe a border or two, quilt to backing & batting and bind. Not much to do!
Enjoy your weekend
Thanks for stopping

Hello
Thought I would share the last 4 quilts I made which were taken to a Cambodian Charity.
Two of these quilts have cotton batting and two have no batting. I did this for two reasons. Firstly the batting can be expensive for me and secondly my friend took these in her luggage so didn’t need the extra weight. I was surprised how much warmth was in the quilts with no batting when I was completing the binding.
The quilts sizes (left to right) are 115 x 138 cm, 135 x 104 cm, 110 x 86.5 cm and 108 x 108 cm. I constructed tops with strip piecing 9 square blocks. The blue quilt second from right has several borders as the 9 square blocks were rather small and to make a useable size I added the borders.
The backings are from fabric gifted to me for that purpose. Some of the bindings are also made from shirts whilst others were made from fabric not able to be used for Days for Girls projects.
I have completed 7 quilts and an Oslo bag by Sew Sweetness here. I still have 2 unfinished quilt tops and enough pieces for a very scrappy quilt. Some of the quilts have the buttons some do not. Buttons which I removed have been given to a friend who knits for Caroline Chisolm (a local women and children’s charity here) for use on baby knits. Not bad for 20 shirts which probably would have gone to land fill.
This afternoon I plan to sit and read my current book – All the light we cannot see – its due back at the library tomorrow and I am currently about a third through!
Thanks for stopping

Hello
Boy time does get away! Thought I would pop in and share a few of the projects I have been working on.
Firstly a throw for my eldest daughter from stash yarn. You can find the pattern here. The grey is left over from the throw I made earlier this year here
Second up is another knit project. I purchased this yarn a few weeks ago whilst on a girls weekend in Healseville from Crumbz Craft. Amazing already on the needles! A nice pair of socks for me using a simply sock pattern here.
Lastly 2 quilts I have completed from repurposed shirts. These are for a fundraiser next week. I have 4 other quilt tops made not yet basted and quilted!
This first one is 2.5″ fabric stripes cut and recut into grid pattern. Borders are also 2.5″. This has cotton batting and the backing was gifted. The binding is also from repurposed shirt fabric. Quilt measures 101 cm x 86.5 cm.
The next two photos are of a 5″ square quilt backed with gifted silky fabric. Again I used repurposed shirts for the binding. Pieced in strip and recut, sewn again into 9 piece blocks. Blocks laid out and sewn together. Quilt measures 115cm x 138cm
Thanks for stopping by

Hello
Popping in to share a quilt I finished this week. Just in time I might add. I finished the quilt the same afternoon the bub arrived – nothing like cutting things fine/leaving to the last minute!
an in progress pic
and complete
size 133 cm x 102 cm
This was made to order. Backing is grey cotton. I quilted around the blocks on my normal machine.
I also hope to finish my Flax light jumper soon – I have about 30 rows of one sleeve to go!
Thanks for stopping

Hello
A little dark, wet and cold here in Melbourne today. A good day for snuggling up inside.
Here is a little update on my crafty pursuits – cause you know I have been creating a little just haven’t shared!
Firstly the back of my Bernat Hi Lo Jumper. I have started the front however there isn’t much past the cast on to share just yet.
This is a pic of what I hope it looks like when I am done 🙂
You can find the pattern here
I am using Bendigo Woollen Mills Savanna Fog its 30% Alpaca and 70% wool so should keep me nice and toasty warm when I get it finished (fingers crossed before the end of winter!).
This is an update on my hexie hand pieced quilt. I started making hexies a couple of summers ago as a summer project. It gets worked on from time to time but as there is no finish date I am just working on it when I feel. I am using scraps from some of my other quilts and off cuts along with new purchased fat quarters. I purchased a hexie die so I can cut my own papers from cardstock. I played with placement of the Grandmothers garden but decided they needed white to help tie them together. The colours didn’t seem to fight each other as much this way. This is a long term project and most likely a never ending line of hexies!
That’s all for now.
Off to tidy my craft room because I need to make some space on the desk before I can make a 21st card for tomorrow and a 50th Birthday card for next week.
See you next time
Cheers
Vicki
