Hello
Popping in today to share a few finished projects and some WIP./plans.
Hello
For some reason my birthdays seem to come in batches!
This week we have 3 birthdays over 2 days.
Starting yesterday with Ms 16’s Boyfriend’s 16th birthday – yes she is older by 5 or 6 weeks!
He likes Star Wars – so much that he couldn’t wait until Christmas for his gift (a star wars t shirt & bag) because he wanted to wear it to the midnight screening of the new movie.
So after lots of googling this is what we decided on. We were inspired by this card here.
Some punch art with a simple stamped greeting from The Paper company Birthday stamp set. The whole darth vader image is popped up with foam tape.
I am linking this to the current challenge at The Sisterhood of Crafters here – something old, something new
All the punches used are old, as is the stamp set – the new are enamel dots.
Two more Birthdays today
Today is a double birthday – my friend’s daughter is 16 and Mr M turns 18.
Mr M is a huge Marvel Avengers fan along with Dr Who and Star Wars. As I made the Darth Vader card for Ms S’s boyfriend and I have made him a Dr who inspired card here and here in the past it was time for a Marvel inspired card. Again lots of googling!
Thanks to these sites here and here for inspiration
I used A4 cardstock and cut to 10.5 cm and scored at 10.5 cm intervals to create a concertina card and added additional “pages” until I had the number I needed.
This is the inside of the card
left to right
Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, Iron man and the Black Widow (my version needs a little work she needs to be a little slimmer!)
I am linking this card up to the challenge at the Male Room here
To make the card front I used SU – Number of Years stamp and die set along with PTI Birthday Bash stamp set stamped with SU Real Red and Night of Navy ink and cardstock. I cut the numbers from fun foam to help raise them off the card front – this is so much easier than using multiple layers of cardstock. I have used lots of punches and dies to create the characters within the card. Some of these didn’t come out as expected, I am just going with it! I know the green arrow is missing and also hawk eye – maybe another time?
Ms 11 has put in a request for a card like this for her next birthday with little pet shop as the theme – in December!
and the final card for today
Once again I have used the SU Number of Years stamp set and die and used fun foam die cut to add dimension. I also used Inspired by stamping spring lilacs ribbon collection. Colours are SU very vanilla, perfect plum, so saffron and early espresso stamped off onto scrap first as I thought it may be too dark for this card.
I am linking this card up to the challenge at The Colour Tree here
This is the quilt I made for my friend’s daughter
Another disappearing nine patch. Quilted in the ditch around the 1/4 squares of the original nine patch. Quilt measures 130 cm x 160 cm . It consists of 8 fabrics cut into 180 5″ squares in the blocks plus backing fabric (plain white) and black cotton binding fabric. When I decided to make this quilt her colour preference was mauve and a French theme. I have spent a few months collecting the fabrics, who knew mauve wasn’t such a “big” colour and “French theme” isn’t so big either. I can bet next time I go into a fabric store both those themes will be everywhere. One of the fabrics has French words, the Eiffel Tower, lace and other images and is also mauve so that had to be included. I’m hoping her taste hasn’t changed significantly and she will use this for a few years.
Sorry for such a mammoth post
Thanks for hanging in til the end
Until next time
Cheers
Vicki
Hello there
It has been a while since I created anything, unless you count the painting of the front picket fence! The occasions for cards since Christmas has been few and those we have had we have used a card from my stash with the exception of this card. I have used a free stamp set coloured with markers and crayons. I added some glitter with Kindy Glitz and wink of stella. I also added the embellishments of a pre purchased flower, rhinestones and I used a banner punch to punch out the little banners from Glitter paper and Kaisercraft papers. This was for a friend who recently celebrated her x1st birthday.
We meet at “New Mother’s Group” – a group set up by our Maternal Health Nurse when we had our first bubs – 18 years ago. There are 5 Mums who have stayed in friendship since then. Four of us had our second bubs together too, the 5th a year later. It is great as we can bounce things from each other as we are going through the same experiences – even now when our eldest have reached the milestone 18, completed their VCE and are enrolling in University.
Other recent events
Since Christmas we have taken a trip to Yarrawonga with extended family. Mr M celebrated his 16th birthday, we went as a family to see the latest Hobbit movie to celebrate. Miss E has received her VCE results, been offered a place at Deakin University and enrolled.
Over the break I have read several books The Rosie Project (a book club read – which we all liked), Cross Stitch (or Outlander for those outside Aus), Life after Life and I have almost finished Dragonfly in Amber (second in the Outlander series – 6 more to go!).
This last week has seen a return to our routine with Miss A starting Year 4, Mr M Year 11 and Miss S will start Year 9 tomorrow. Miss E doesn’t start until March. The swimming, dancing and basketball all start to return. Of course hubby and I have returned to work. I have been fortunate enough to obtain a second part time position at a local pre-school. I am hoping I will still have time to create, perhaps fewer creations (and posts) in the short term as things all settle.
Another pic of the card

and
use embellishments – 2 or more
Stay cool if you are in my part of the world. Another hot week predicted.
Cheers
