A couple of finished projects…

Hello

Just popping in to share a couple of projects I have finished off this week.

This is a free pattern Cozy Triangles here

I used 2 strands of yarn together cause I thought it would be a quick knit that way.

The yarn is an acrylic yarn left over from another project – and yes I still have some left!  I seriously overestimated the amount I needed for the first project.

another close up of the pattern

Miss A is very happy with it. Thankfully!

My next project was started and finished in the same week.  Amazing!

I purchased Shelly Down’s Gingermelons Embroidered animals book a few months ago.  I had wanted to try making a doll which was easy for a toddler or small child to carry around. This doll does fit the criteria.  Next time I will alter the method a little as I felt there was far to much hand sewing of ears and limbs to the body – I’m sure the method can be tweaked to sew into the seams.

Here is my finished doll.  She isn’t perfect.  My embroidery is a little rusty and as mentioned above I will change how I sew her together next time.

Hope you are all going well.

Until next time

Cheers

Vicki

Finished!

Hello

After a very long time on the needles this is finished!

This is a throw or afghan for my eldest daughter.  It measures 156 cm x 212 cm.  Now to say I was over it by the time I finished would be an understatement!

You can find the pattern here Bold and Stripy Afghan.

Miss A (14) has also requested a throw.  She has picked the pattern and I have enough yarn from Miss S’s throw earlier in the year – overestimated how much I needed!  I just need a little break before tackling another big project.

I also finished my socks 🧦.

I am really pleased how the stripes are pretty spot on.  This yarn is so clever.

Looking forward to wearing them.  Miss A is modelling for me in the pic above.

I have been using up some bits and pieces on little Premmie hats. One of the lovely ladies from my knitting group is going to pass them onto a local hospital. As a side I am so inspired by this lady. She is 99 (100 next January) still lives independently doing her own shopping, cooking etc and going to the footy! plus a very active member of several community groups. She doesn’t have glasses, hearing aid or walking stick. If I’m lucky enough to be as well as she is I might make a dent in my stash!! 😉

I have used a couple of different patterns for these the link to the smaller one is. here.

I have one more on the needles.  I might try and finish a few more before mid week.  I do have a few card requests on my to do list I need to get onto.

That’s all for today

Thanks for stopping

Cheers

Vicki

A little catch up…

Hello

Just popping in to share what I have been upto!

A little closer to the end for this bold and Stripy throw for my eldest daughter.  The grey band (at the top) is the last colour and as of last night I think I’m around 20ish rows from the end.  Hoping to finish soon so I can get on with some other knitting projects – perhaps finish my socks! This hasn’t been portable so have had to work on it in front of the tv.  I must admit I am not looking forward to weaving in all those ends! It has been a good stash buster project though.

These next two photos are little dresses I have made up out of hubbies old work pants.  The centre front and back seams are from the outside leg seams.  The Butterick pattern 4108 has a seam centre front and back so using the pant seam made these even quicker to put together once I made the time!

I now have the pant tops, the part from waist to crotch, to deconstruct.  If you have an idea on how to use those I’d like to know.  At this stage I think I will be just saving the haberdashery for other projects.

I think these are heading for a new home with a charity.  I used this pattern alot for my girls in all types of fabrics and there are no zips or buttons to fuss with. It was great to pair with tights/leggins and tshirts and jeans later on when the dress got a little short!

Some got a little brightened up with yoyos and buttons.

My aunt has requested some aprons for her grandchildren.  I hope she likes these when I catch up with her.

Again this is a pattern I have been making up for years.  It is from “My learn to sew book” I have had since I was a child in the 70’s.  My cover is looking a little worse for wear.

Hubby and my eldest daughter were away for 7 days in the recent school holidays so it was the perfect time to tidy up my craft space.  I moved furniture and re-organised my supplies.  So my space is reasonably tidy until the next postage delivery! I do have a rather large pile of NBUS and to finish off/re-do projects.

Until next time

Cheers

A few things I’ve been up to…

Hello

Boy time does get away! Thought I would pop in and share a few of the projects I have been working on.

Firstly a throw for my eldest daughter from stash yarn.  You can find the pattern here.  The grey is left over from the throw I made earlier this year here

Second up is another knit project.  I purchased this yarn a few weeks ago whilst on a girls weekend in Healseville from Crumbz Craft.  Amazing already on the needles! A nice pair of socks for me using a simply sock pattern here.

Lastly 2 quilts I have completed from repurposed shirts. These are for a fundraiser next week.  I have 4 other quilt tops made not yet basted and quilted!

This first one is 2.5″ fabric stripes cut and recut into grid pattern.  Borders are also 2.5″.  This has cotton batting and the backing was gifted.  The binding is also from repurposed shirt fabric. Quilt measures 101 cm x 86.5 cm.

The next two photos are of a 5″ square quilt backed with gifted silky fabric.  Again I used repurposed shirts for the binding.  Pieced in  strip  and  recut, sewn  again into  9 piece blocks.  Blocks  laid  out  and  sewn  together.  Quilt  measures  115cm  x 138cm

Boulevard Blanket…

Hello

Popping in to share a throw (blanket) I completed recently for Ms S (19).

I grossly overestimated how much yarn I would need for this project! I purchased 25 balls based on meterage and used just over 8.  Better than playing yarn chicken. Luckily Ms A (14) has put in an order for a grey throw as well. However I have started another throw for Ms E (23) so she might have to wait a little bit!  I started this back in April so I don’t think it has taken me long considering it really wasn’t a project I could take to the pool and work on.  I had thought I needed to purchase new needle tips for this project however after taking my tips into the city (way back on the day I attended the Altenew workshop) I found I had what I needed.  Common sense should have told me if you double 8 ply which you normally knit on 4mm you will need 8 mm.  Really makes sense in hindsight and you probably already knew that!

You can find the pattern for The Boulevard Blanket here

The finished throw is 94 x 135 cm.  Just big enough to wrap up in which is exactly what Ms S did as soon as I gave it to her.

I have a few other projects on the go or waiting to go! – not all craft related though so fingers crossed I’ll be back to share some progress.  I recently unexpectedly finished my casual position.  So as I undertake the time consuming and painstaking task of finding another position I will hopefully have some extra crafty time.

Until next time

A finished jumper…

Hello again

A quick post today – just for a change 🙂

I finished the last cuff of my Tin Can Knits Flax Light at the weekend.  I found this a good knit. I have made with Bendigo Woollen Mills Cotton in Arctic.  I used approximately 1.75 balls.

Knock knock…

Hello

I have been enjoying the hot summer here in Melbourne glad to see it has cooled in the last week.  Since Christmas we have had a 21st,  a 25th Wedding anniversary and I celebrated a significant birthday.  The partying from December has continued.  Miss S’s boyfriend also had a birthday in there along with a few of our friends.  We did get away for a week with most of the kiddos and their partners.  Mr M (21) had to work his part time job so he stayed home and looked after the dog whilst his girlfriend was away with her family.

School went back on 4th for my youngest (Ms A 14) whilst hubby and our eldest (Ms E 23) started work a few days before that.  Ms E has secured a lab assistants role and has also enroled to become a secondary high school science teacher.  She still hopes to get her dream job in forensics one day.

Mr M and Ms S (19) don’t go back to uni for a few weeks yet.  They have both been busy with their part time jobs and catching up with their friends.

Now some of the people are out of the house I have been doing some major tidying and decluttering.  Next week I plan on tackling the craft room whilst hubby is away on school camp. Wish me luck.  If all goes well I will have a nice tidy house and loads of crafty time.

I have managed a little crafty time.  I started flaxlight by tincan knits here in early January and am pleased with how it is coming along.  I am using Bendigo Woollen Mills 4ply arctic.

A few HST…

Hello

Today I’m sharing what I have been doing with HST (half square triangles).

They are rather addictive!

First up this chevron quilt in yellow & grey approximately 80cm x 105 cm

I started with 5″ squares and used the Missouri Star Quilt company method to make the HST.

the back

do you like this colour combo?

so far …

I also finished a jumper for me

This is a Hi-Lo Hem jumper from Cleckheaton Women’s Merion Collection book. I used BWM Luxury 8 ply.  I was a little worried I might run short but have ended up with 97g (about half a ball) left.

Next on the creating front is a HST quilt for a friend and to tackle the huge amount of pp! I must cut it and use it 🙂 Oh and to knit some more dog coats for the Lost Dog’s Home.

Thanks for stopping

Cheers
